Jeffreys and a group of friends, known as the Elim Evangelistic Band, preached, started churches and witnessed a move of God that was characterised by miraculous healings and an explosion in the number of people becoming Christians.
The founders wanted the name of their new Movement to express their vision and values, and so chose ‘Elim’, the name of an oasis in the Bible that the people of Israel discovered as they wandered through the desert. It provided shade and refreshment to all who encountered it.
Chris Cartwright
General Superintendent of
the Elim Pentecostal Church
We currently serve within the communities of Bodmin, Launceston and Lostwithiel, through a variety of ministries that enable everyone to get to know the love of Jesus, and enable us to show our love.
The Launceston church was formed in May 2010, the Bodmin church started meeting in May 2014 and the Lostwithiel church was developed in 2012. Our Bodmin church is a plant from the Launceston church and the Lostwithiel church joined the family in 2020. We see ourselves as a multi-congregational church.
The Gateway Centre is a jewel in the crown for the church. It is a busy community centre in the heart of Launceston which we developed in 2013. There are many community groups, businesses and support networks who use the building on a daily basis.
Our current Pastors, Kevin & Teresa took over from the founders of the church, John and Sally Berriman in 2019. Kevin commenced his Ministry in Training at Gateway Church in 2012 and was ordained by Elim in 2016. In the same year he and his family felt called to go on mission to France and the Basque Country. After serving on the field for three years, they rejoined Gateway Church and Kevin became the Lead Pastor.
We are based in the Gateway to Cornwall and the Gateway to the rest of the world – it could be the Gateway to a new start and a new life! We recognise that there are many different churches in Cornwall, but in Gateway Church we hope you find one to suit your taste
